SETH AND EVAN MAKE ANOTHER PORNO
Apparently nonplussed by the failure of Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Seth Rogen is heading back to the billion-dollar industry that no one likes to talk about... for Showtime. Mr. Rogen, along with his partner-in-comedy arms Evan Goldberg, is developing an untitled series for the cable network about three floundering twentysomethings who grapple with life and relationships while working in a pornography store. The duo's longtime assistant, Matthew Bass, is set to write and co-executive produce the series. We guess the hope is that by hanging around someone as funny as Seth Rogen, some comedy sensibility inadvertently rubs off. (And no, that's not a porn-related pun.)
The pitch for the show sounds... well, like every other Judd Apatow based rip-off we've seen in the last few years. Still, we guess it's about time that the Apatovian comedy style returned to television. And while Mr. Apatow isn't directly involved in this project, we're sure Mr. Rogen will be a capable fill-in. Plus, the dude has massive clout, so unlike Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared, Mr. Apatow's failed (and awesome) ventures into television comedy, Mr. Rogen's project should stick around for a little while. Expect the usual repertory players to appear here as well; we may be biased towards Jay Baruchel, but this would be a perfect vehicle for him to star in.
This is also great news for Showtime, since they've gotten lapped by HBO during the last year. It's been very easy to take pot shots at the former king of pay cable, but HBO has collected such a large variety of talented people in recent months that it's only a matter of time before they get back on top. Meanwhile Showtime, which seems to get off scot-free, has seen its shows go directly into the tank. With this project, the Steven Spielberg/Diablo Cody match-made-in-bizarre The United States of Tara and Edie Falco's Nurse Jackie, things are looking significantly better for Showtime in 2009. As long as Mr. Rogen keeps Kevin Smith far away from this new series, everything should be fine.
I have started adding screen captures from the television show FREAKS AND GEEKS. The show stars Seth Rogen alongside James Franco, Martin Starr, Jason Segel and more. It is set in 1980 Michigian and it follows two groups of high school students, the "freaks" and the "geeks."
The poster for Seth's upcoming film FUNNY PEOPLE was just released this week and it has been added in the gallery, so check it out! Funny People stars Seth alongside Adam Sandler, Leslie Mann, Eric Bana, and Jonah Hill, and is produced by Judd Apatow. The film is to be released July 31, 2009.

How were you raised in your family? SR: "I think it’s crazy that a movie series like “Saw” has no problem getting advertised. “Saw IV” is all about people getting tortured. No one has a problem with those movies’ ads. It’s ridiculous that people make such a big deal out of porno yet violence is completely ignored. It’s shocking how people reacted too. It’s stupid and childish.
Do you feel good about yourself now? I feel okay. No, I actually feel a little worse about myself. I feel like I would make fun of me. Like if I were just a guy who saw me on TV I’d be like, “What did Seth Rogen do? He lost weight. What a sell-out.” I feel lame talking about what I eat now. I’m the type of guy who talks about his diet. What is that about? That’s just like the lamest thing ever, I think (laughter). I hate what it has turned me into.
Sorry for the lack of updates, I have been working on a new layout (which will hopefully be added in the next day or so). In the meantime, here is the official trailer for the upcoming animated movie, MONSTERS VS. ALIENS featuring the voices of Seth Rogen, Will Arnett, Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Laurie, Rainn Wilson, Stephen Colbert, Kiefer Sutherland, and Paul Rudd.
Not surprisingly, the man/boy who co-wrote Superbad has a clear memory of the first time he saw a pornographic movie. "I was thirteen," says Seth Rogen who grew up in Vancouver and currently co-stars as Zack in Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make a Porno (read the review). "It was called The Fisherman’s Wife."
So was it really graphic? "It was a particularly dirty one," he admits. "And it really scared me. I was not ready for it at all. It was a lot more surgical looking than I thought it would be."
Surgical?" That’s what I remember thinking, and that was my closest frame of reference for it," Rogen suggests. "It was like when you accidentally see surgery on television. Something is going into something, just parts of the body that I’ve never seen, internal things. It really shocked me."
So how did he obtain the XXX-rated film? "My friend gave it to me," he says."The same way every guy in the universe gets porn."
Elizabeth Banks who's Miri in Zack and Miri Make a Porno had a different experience. "I was 14," recalls Banks who grew up in Pittsfield, Mass. "My friend was babysitting and I got a call. She said 'You need to come over here because I'm pretty sure there is porn.'"
The babysitting kids were in bed, so Banks and her friend pulled out the VHS tapes tucked behind the TV, and loaded them up.
"It had the fake cover sort of ripped off," she continues. "It was clear he had recorded it off of something. That was it. I was at a random place, and I don't remember the couple's name, but it was some daddy porn. That was the first time I had seen video porn."
She doesn't remember the title either, but she does remember this. "I had seen dirty magazines before that," she says. "My Uncle Jimmy kept a stack of Penthouse or Hustler under his bed."
And no she didn't update her research for the the Smith film.
"I relied heavily upon the encyclopedic minds of Seth and Kevin for this sort of material," confesses Banks. "They have been researching it literally since they were kids."
Comic actor Seth Rogen was so sure that he would have to strip in the new movie Zack and Miri Make A Porno, he shaved his hairy back.
Although the Knocked Up star was ready to get completely naked with co-star Elizabeth Banks, director Kevin Smith chose not to ask the two to strip on screen.
Contactmusic.com reports Rogen saying: "I shaved my back just in case. I went fully bare, like a two-year-old. I was ready. I didn't want to be too real for the world. I don't think the world is too ready for a hairy back in a love scene. Has there ever been a sex scene with Robin Williams? People don't want to see that. That would border on bestiality."
ComingSoon.Net was virtually accurated with their box office predictions. ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO opened in the number 2 spot opening weekend.
